Initiatives aimed at supporting overseas Vietnamese communities will continue to be pursued more comprehensively and strongly

Following a day of intensive and productive work, the 4th Conference of Overseas Vietnamese around the world and the Forum for Vietnamese Intellectuals and Experts Abroad 2024 concluded on the afternoon of 22 August in Hanoi. The proceedings were brought to a close, with the proposed contents and working programme having been fully accomplished.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended the opening session and delivered a speech at the Forum for Vietnamese Intellectuals and Experts Abroad.

The conference was attended by over 200 delegates, representing a diverse range of stakeholders including leaders from central and local government departments, ministries, socio-political organisations, research institutes, universities, and domestic business associations. Notably, the conference saw the participation of 400 overseas Vietnamese delegates from over 40 countries and territories, who brought a unique perspective and passion for their homeland and country, contributing to the success of the Forum.

The Organising Committee received in excess of 100 presentations from domestic agencies and Vietnamese representative agencies abroad, including over 70 contributions from overseas Vietnamese individuals, who offered valuable insights on a range of topics, including high technology, economics, trade, investment, national solidarity, legal policies, culture, the Vietnamese language.

The Organising Committee has acknowledged the enthusiastic opinions and responsible contributions of the delegates and will continue to engage in discussions and coordinate with relevant state departments, ministries and localities with a view to further improving policies, guidelines and legal regulations in related fields.

During the Conference, overseas Vietnamese businesses and organisations entered into 10 memoranda of understanding with domestic agencies, organisations and businesses in a range of fields, including technology transfer, human resource training and communications.

The Deputy Minister, Le Thi Thu Hang, presented Certificates of Merit from the Minister of Foreign Affairs to a number of individuals and groups in Viet Nam and overseas Vietnamese communities abroad who have made significant, exemplary and distinctive contributions to the work of overseas Vietnamese.

In her closing remarks at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang, Chairwoman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, posited that the overseas Vietnamese community will continue to grow in number, expand in area, and become more diverse in composition in the coming years. The community continues to become increasingly integrated into the host country in all aspects, thereby becoming an important resource for the development of Viet Nam.

In this context, the Deputy Minister reaffirmed the commitment to implement the work on overseas Vietnamese in a comprehensive and robust manner, aligning with the requirements of national development in the evolving context. This approach is intended to meet the trust and expectations of the community of over 6 million overseas Vietnamese. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other relevant ministries, sectors, and localities will continue to dedicate efforts to operationalise the viewpoints and policies of the Party and State, as well as the instructions of senior leaders.

The Deputy Minister, Le Thi Thu Hang, expresses hope that the tradition of mutual love and support will continue to be promoted, that the law will be obeyed, that integration will be actively encouraged, that the development of the locality will be facilitated, that the community will be united, and that the country will be preserved and developed. At the same time, the national identity and the Vietnamese language will be maintained, and the country will continue to benefit from the contributions of its citizens. In this regard, the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese will persist in providing accompaniment and support to the community, which is deserving of being a home imbued with affection for compatriots.

The Deputy Minister places great emphasis on the idea that collective action is essential for progress, and that the involvement of the entire political system, as well as the active participation of the Vietnamese people, is vital for the success of the country's development. In light of the considerable progress made in recent years, the work of overseas Vietnamese is set to expand further. This will contribute to the development of a unified, robust, and thriving overseas Vietnamese community, working collectively to advance the country's prosperity and well-being.

In recognition of their contributions, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs bestowed Certificates of Merit from the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Certificates of Merit from the Chairman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese upon a number of individuals and groups in the country and overseas Vietnamese who have made significant, exemplary, and distinctive contributions to the work of overseas Vietnamese.
