Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long chaired the Dialogue with overseas Vietnamese businessmen and intellectuals in the United States

On the afternoon of 14 November 2024 in Washington DC, USA, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hoang Long and Vietnamese Ambassador to the United States Nguyen Quoc Dung co-chaired a discussion on "Promoting Intellectual Resources and Contributions of Overseas Vietnamese Entrepreneurs to the Development of Viet Nam's Industry, Energy and Trade".

The seminar was held in a warm and friendly atmosphere with the participation of about 70 overseas intellectuals and businessmen in the United States. In his opening speech, Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long stressed that the Vietnamese Communist Party and the Government always pay attention to overseas Vietnamese affairs, affirming that overseas Vietnamese are an inseparable part, a resource of the Vietnamese ethnic community, and an extremely important factor contributing to strengthening cooperative and friendly relations between our country and other countries in the world.

On this occasion, Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long briefed overseas Vietnamese on Viet Nam's socio-economic situation, Viet Nam's policy direction to develop key areas in the coming period, such as energy, energy transition, semiconductors and artificial intelligence, high-tech agriculture, digital economy, and the capability of Vietnamese enterprises to participate in global supply and value chains... These are all important areas, the main driving force to achieve the goal of building a modern economy, bringing the country into the era of national development. Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long also shared major challenges for Viet Nam in the current context, while inviting overseas Vietnamese to provide input and advice to help realise the country's development goals.

A number of representatives from the Vietnamese intellectual and business communities in the United States had the opportunity to engage in constructive dialogue and share insights on a range of topics, including how to support the country's overall development and address current issues of national importance, such as the election and the new economic and trade policies of the United States, the intellectual and financial capacity of overseas Vietnamese, experience in developing energy projects and clean energy sources, waste treatment for power generation, small nuclear reactor technology, the energy transition process, the development of basic industries such as biotechnology, artificial intelligence technology and the building of an independent and self-reliant economy in Viet Nam.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long and the delegation from the Ministry of Industry and Trade listened to the aspirations and enthusiastic contributions of overseas Vietnamese intellectuals and businesspeople in the United States. These contributions and insights reflect a strong spirit of returning to the homeland to foster the country’s economic growth in alignment with global trends. Drawing from practical experience, the participants have offered new perspectives and partially addressed some of the challenges the nation faces in building competitiveness and achieving sustainable development.

On behalf of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long received and conducted a detailed examination of the opinions of overseas Vietnamese regarding economic and trade development policies and strategies. Particular emphasis was placed on the fields of industry, energy, and supply chain development in Viet Nam for the upcoming period.
