Vietnam Strengthens Its Presence in the EU Wood Supply Chain Thanks to EVFTA Preferences

17/11/2025

According to the latest report from the Agency of Foreign Trade (Ministry of Industry and Trade), Vietnam continues to affirm its position as one of the EU’s most important suppliers of wooden furniture among non-EU markets.

Data from Eurostat show that in August 2025, EU imports of wooden furniture from non-EU countries reached EUR 476.2 million (equivalent to USD 552.4 million), down 8.7% compared to August 2024. Cumulatively, in the first eight months of 2025, EU imports of wooden furniture from non-EU markets totaled EUR 4.3 billion (equivalent to USD 4.98 billion), up 8.4% year-on-year. The increase in EU imports from non-EU markets indicates that demand for wooden furniture remains on a positive growth trajectory, despite ongoing global economic uncertainties.

Notably, Vietnamese wooden furniture has continued to expand its market share in the EU, thanks to its strong ability to meet standards related to quality, design, and sustainability across supply chains. This creates opportunities for Vietnam’s wood industry to further expand exports to the EU market in the coming period, especially as the EU–Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) continues to provide competitive advantages in terms of tariffs and market access.

Specifically, among non-EU suppliers, China remained the largest source of wooden furniture imports to the EU in the first eight months of 2025, reaching EUR 2.15 billion (equivalent to USD 2.49 billion), up 14.4% year-on-year and accounting for 50.1% of total import value, an increase from 47.4% in the same period of 2024. Vietnam ranked as the second-largest non-EU supplier to the EU, with exports valued at EUR 379.98 million (equivalent to USD 440.8 million), up 16.7%, accounting for 8.8% of total imports—an increase of 0.6 percentage points compared to the same period in 2024. Vietnam continues to consolidate its position as one of the EU’s most important suppliers of wooden furniture, recording the highest growth rate among the EU’s top 10 non-EU partners.

By product category, the EU increased imports of most types of wooden furniture from non-EU markets during the first eight months of 2025, with the exception of office furniture. The EU imported the largest value of living room and dining room furniture, reaching EUR 1.9 billion (equivalent to USD 2.2 billion), up 9.1% year-on-year. This was followed by wooden-frame chairs at EUR 1.46 billion (equivalent to USD 1.7 billion), up 21%, and bedroom furniture at EUR 721 million (equivalent to USD 836.4 million), up 15.6%. Overall, EU demand for wooden furniture imports continued to show positive growth during the first eight months of 2025. Within this trend, Vietnamese furniture has been steadily increasing its market share, particularly in product groups where it holds competitive advantages, such as wooden-frame chairs and living room and dining room furniture.

These results demonstrate the strong performance of Vietnam’s wood export sector. Although the industry continues to face pressure from logistics costs and requirements related to legal timber traceability, many enterprises have proactively adapted by investing in green supply chain development and shifting products toward sustainable segments, thereby better meeting international market standards.
